5 reasons why leaving Boston is awesome!

Pros!

1) Blizzard!

2) Florida sunshine in December might not be the warmest, but the contrast to here more than makes up for that.

3) Avatar! Movies and dinner dates out! Free babysitting from family is a rare and wonderful thing.

4) Getting to leave the house without some big production. Unless going to the beach and then it is worth it.

5) Having family fawn all over Alex.

Cons!

1) Having a six am flight and having to get up by four am with a sleepy and most likely grumpy toddler.

2) Packing is never fun.

3) Cleaning the house.

4) No more green smoothies in the morning. Vitamix doesn't travel well and I don't think the stick blender will cut it.

5) Wasting my membership to the Gym. But I think there is one that I can use at my Grandmother's complex. Actually using it is another story.

As you can see the pros far out way the cons! We're not bringing the laptop and will have limited internet access, mostly from our phones. See you next year! Hope everybody has a great holiday and New Years!

Enjoy Your Extra Day!

Where?

I know I am going to make sure that I do! And I hope that you do too. This day only happens every four years. Any of you having a birthday? Also, February being over is a thing to celebrate at the very least.

Looking at these beautiful purchases and gifts that I received tonight makes me realize just how lucky I am. I'm lucky enough to have baby bibs that are so nice they will be passed down instead of tossed aside. Want your own? Check out her shop at Une Petite Etoile. She chooses such beautiful, soft and lush fabrics for little ones that I almost wish I was the baby and not the mom!

No moping. No dwelling. No time wasting, yet allowing myself to relax is important, a tricky balance for sure. No being overly emotional and sensitive. No being angry.

It is supposed to snow here in Boston that night so as long as the day is decent I will be out and about as much as possible. I have some stuff that I need to get shipped out ASAP but lately it hasn't taken much to get us out of the house.

Also, I did some gocco printing today (yay!) and will focus my art on cutting up some of those prints as well as other papers. I was pretty irritated by the Gocco and myself today as I was distracted and wasted four bulbs and those are not cheap. But I still have enough to hold me for awhile.

I'm also going to be sure to get in plenty of snuggles with my best girl. Now I am off to bed as it is past my bedtime and I have a big day tomorrow. See you there. mwah!

December is Magic

My birthday ended up better than I thought it would be when I woke up feeling horrible to bad weather early yesterday. Before I knew it the skies had cleared and it was a beautiful spring day for me. And since Jon had the day off we were able to enjoy it together with our daughter. And that is all I need.

We've been in Boston for five years now so I know winter is not over, but I do think it is safe for me to hope that we will have more good days than bad.

Now to show off some recently listed reproductions from my mLeeRedux. I'm working to keep both that and mLee fresh this week.

Nothing Says Happy Birthday!

For the Love of a Female

Like cold, rain, wind and being sick to top it all off.

It's my 30th birthday today and outside is depressing on a day when I really need it to not be.

Seriously, February is not a good month to have a kid in most areas of the United States. It is hard caring for a newborn in this weather with bundling them up and illness and all that fun stuff new parents just love.

And it isn't fun for them when they are older. This is the second time in a row that I have been sick and isolated on my birthday. I dragged myself out to a little birthday dinner on Saturday night, but due to weather and traveling for the long weekend only three people came. When you have something planned in February you need to anticipate people dropping out or it getting canceled last minute because of a storm.

If we ever choose to have another child I plan on trying to avoid months November through March as due dates. Early September was a great time to have a baby. And Boston summers are a lot milder than Chicago summers so it wasn't all that bad being huge during the summer. And it certainly wasn't as dangerous as being huge in icy conditions!

While I firmly anticipate that I am on the right track in my life finally and that my thirties will be better than my twenties today is still such a bummer. I got my hopes up thinking that my dad would send me something this year. He told me that he would send me a little something along with some of my sister's old baby clothes but predictably that never happened. And you know what, it hurts.

And I miss my mother today. A lot. I picked up a book for blee yesterday and thought about how if she were around then blee would always have plenty of books from grandma. Thankfully she raised me well and I know what to get. It was an exchange and I had a very limited selection to choose from so I got Harold and the Purple Crayon. It is a little to old for her, but it never hurts to start the collection. There is a Leo Lionni (Fish is Fish and Frederick) box set that I want badly.

I was supposed to go to a babywearing group in Cambridge today as the meeting this time is actually a lot more accessible than normally. But with this weather I am not so sure anymore.

At least I am not puking on my birthday like last year! And I have a lot that I am truly and deeply grateful for this year. It would just be nice, yanno, to not be hacking up strange things on my birthday for a change. *edit* thinking about my symptoms and the fact that my father in law had pneumonia I am starting to suspect that I have a case of walking pneumonia. Freakin hell! And the doctor won't even be open for me to make an appointment! Double doh!

Golden Times

These two insect pieces are from the last few days of 2007. Still working on my first pieces of 2008, hit a bit of a lag this past week. This weekend wasn't productive at all artistically until the very end when I dragged out some pretty papers and a blade and got to cutting. Nothing big or complete but at least I can say I did something with my hands. Funny thing is that early last week inspiration hit me like a brick and I carved two blocks in about a day. Well, one block with two sides I should say if we are going to be technical. Went to bed wanting to print woke up and nothing but the desire to want to do it but I kept thinking about paper needing to be torn, the press needing to be reset and I just never got to it.

I'm hoping that my resolve to get stuff done will be better this week. But the truth is that during weekdays it is really hard for me to print because I can't really do it during the day while watching blee because I don't have that kind of time and I am usually to tired at night. And I can't let myself stay up late printing either. And printing is what I feel that I should be doing not starting new block or new project after project without completing them.

Maybe the bad weather that is coming with help get me making art again since I am not going to be going for long strolls around town with blee in the blizzard that is supposed to come tonight. And it takes days and days to dig out from these things. So a blizzard is a good thing? Tell me that when the dog needs to go out tomorrow afternoon.

blee in her bumbo

Blee says hello and hopes that everybody had as lovely a weekend as she did. She's been sleeping so well and has been so happy and easy lately these really are the golden times with her for us. She's fun to play with, she doesn't cry much at all and we don't even have to change many diapers. And she smiles and giggles all the time except when she is in her sling when she just snuggles in all comfy before falling asleep before I zip her up to protect her from a cool breeze or sudden rain. I've been able to wear all 17lbs of her for hours in comfort.

Maybe this is really it, why I am not feeling like printing or even scanning in work. I am just too in love with my baby right now to pull myself away from her that long.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

To me.

The Happy Light Jon ordered for me Monday night came this morning, just in time for me to sit in front of it for thirty almost peaceful moments this morning with breakfast and (paper) journaling. This is to help treat the mixed state depression I have been going through very bad lately. Winter is rough on me. I can't take anti-depressants for a number of reasons so I am hopeful about this. It is quite enjoyable, the light itself and the routine of it could be. I haven't actually written in my paper journal since the day before I found out I was pregnant! First I was too shell shocked and then simply too sick and just out of the habit.

It was a good habit that I am going to try and get back into. It is one of the many things I am doing to try and feel better.

I have the block that can barely be seen in this photo almost completed then I have a small block to carve. Then printing. I am hoping to have all my carving done tonight. We have gotten in the routine of giving blee a nice bath then massage before bed and it is going quite well. Last night she slept her longest stretch yet, eight full hours. This after a horrible night before when she kept waking up every hour and a half or so all night. So far tonight is looking good.

Oh and I was featured on Trunkt the other day. I logged on to take down a sold piece and there I was on the homepage. This is the second time that I know of.

Knowing When to Stop

That I need a break. I won't be posting on this blog this week. I will only upload things to Flickr or list on Etsy if I am really feeling like it. But right now I need to get away from these things for awhile as I am not doing too well. It is horribly cold and icy outside. Like this image but not s pretty. I'm feeling very down combined with blee having a major growth spurt that is just killing us. She is back to waking up every hour to two hours hungry and suddenly that milk I had backed up in the freezer is getting drained. But sometimes she wakes up screaming only to eat a tiny bit and then fall asleep. And she will not sleep in her crib.

waaaashi

Now is not the time for me to be worrying about blogs and Etsy but to rest and take care of myself. My beautiful washi paper arrived the other day and I have been playing with that but am trying not to pressure myself to get new work out so quickly.

She's screaming again. Have a great week.

Winter Morning

Been cold here in Boston this weekend. This piece seems appropriate, right type of houses (in certain neighborhoods) with the chill air breezing through. Winter is extra rough here since we do a lot more walking than in much of the rest of the US. Even if you drive places and that is something to be avoided in many cases you often can't park all the close and need to walk. The best ways to get around Boston are bike, foot, T then car. But I am too chicken to bike here much.

sleeping in her pouch

daddy has her

Pouch for mommy and one for daddy. I am completely hooked on baby wearing and find myself lurking around the internet looking at others and coveting. There is this one seller on Etsy that makes some gorgeous ones. Right now I really wish I knew how to sew because I have some fabric that would work really well. While I adore these fleece pouches for winter I just find myself wanting more. They are incredibly addictive.

Blee turns three months old in just over an hour (7:14pm)! Wow! Today we took her to the Cambridge location church and she met other friends and other babies. Tiny babies for her to devour since she is monster baby that eats small babies for snacks. Speaking of monster baby I am fearing she may be heading into another growth spurt. She's been eating tons lately. She is so much bigger it is crazy, I see little ones walking that have smaller heads and aren't that much larger than her. Of course my cousin was a big kid but she just ended up tall not overweight. I am hardly considered about baby fat, obesity on babies is extra cute!
