Ginkgos and Rocks

Still working hard on the maple leaf block, I am almost done carving out the outlines. I am waiting on a 1 1/8" clearing tool from Flexcut to help me clear the large areas of negative space, so I think I am going to start drawing the whirlygig pods on the other side of the block. I think they would look really greay layered together. I am excited about getting my new tool and the ink that I ordered on Saturday.

Last night I was up super late carving. During a break I got sucked into a website called ArtRenewal.org. According to this not only were Picasso and Rothko crap artists, they weren't even artists at all. And photography isn't art at all. I know everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but boy is this messed up thinking. It seems like these people believe that the art world peaked with the pre-raphealites and that is what art should look like today. Art has evolved over time just like everything else and these people want to keep us doing still lives and classical portraits. I love Rembrant, but in all honesty I would rather have a Rothko hanging in my living room based on pure athestic enjoyment.
