Pomegranate and Sketch
Originally uploaded by m.Lee.
I had planned on printing the blocks I finished yesterday today, but I woke up not in the mood to print at all. Instead I got started on some new ideas. First I sketched out that pattern from the photo I posted awhile ago and started carving it on my largest block (20"x30" this is going to take awhile). I plan on working on this one little bits at a time slowly over time whenever I don't have something else going on and feel the need to carve. I am in no hurry to finish it. I was eating my first pomegranate of the season and decided to do a quick little block inspired by it. I think it turned out quite well and am looking forward to printing it hopefully tomorrow. The perfect piece for Autumn. On the other side of this block is a small version of a lady with flowing hair.

Got in contact with this girl Sarah I know thru Etsy. She used to be a printmaker but due to allergies had to give it up and makes bad ass scarfs instead. But she can print on a limited basis, but doesn't have easy access to a press unless she plops down $300 to rent space at Mixit Studio in Somerville. In exchange for her getting some time with my press she is going to give me a course on monotype printmaking October 15th. I am starting to feel that I need something new to play with so this is perfect for me. I am very excited and am going to Home Depot to get toys for it tonight.

All in all today has been a good day.

Can I just ask you what kind of wood you are carving on? I usually do screen prints but am interested getting back into doing some woodblock work. In the past i've worked on pine but I find a lot of knots and see more grain in my pine than I see in your blocks.
