Shadow of a Tree

Shadow of a Tree

How this series of trees came about interests me. How my work changes from the swirl series, the cityscapes and now the trees. I don't normally do nature but I was sketching one night and somehow I ended up thinking about this willow tree that I used to love when I was a kid. I turned it into an art card and the series was born from that. I like doing these trees basically from memory. The first was completely just a memory from a willow. My memory can be quite fuzzy so it gives them a dreamy quality.

This one started as a mistake. I printed the first layer of the tree too light, so I reinked and printed it again in a different direction. Still unhappy with it I kept going until I had gone all the way around with the block.
